Listen: Mt. Wolf – Midnight Shallows [Premiere]
Rising London four-piece Mt. Wolf are to release their next single, ‘Midnight Shallows’ on 4 November via Third Rock Recordings.
Having followed up debut EP Life Size Ghosts with the beautifully elegiac Hypolight, this new one takes the James Blake and Purity Ring influences a step further, twisting and twirling bright synthesizer motifs about softly resonating percussion to striking effect.
“The fact that we are all from naturally isolated places but living in a huge city where you can feel anonymous definitely reflects in the music we make,” guitarist Bassi told us back in January, and that sense of ghostly introspection has never felt more evident than on ‘Midnight Shallows’. Kate Sproule’s angst-wracked vocal, as clear a window into her own personal existential crises as you’ll hear, hovers over the maudlin trill of guitars at the very crest of the mix, feeling blindly into the darkness, with paling fingertips just out of reach.
