Gothenburg trio Movienite mix jangly indie and shoegaze/grunge perfectly on their new track, “Yippie!”
Essentially a mashup of styles, “Yippee!” opens with a melange of rattling strumming and intricate picking that smacks of the now-defunct Postcard Records, with Felt esque late 80s indie pop and 90s My Bloody Valentine shoegaze at the fore. As the track winds its melodic way, the throaty, white noise-infected guitars - held back for so long - eventually can be contained no longer.
As dreamy and irreverent as its lyrics, “Yippie!” switches back and forth between its internal ying and yang before arriving at its final, sweetly picked close.
