Hailing from South London, Movie are a trio that emerged at the beginning of the year, and certainly will not be keeping quiet for the rest of it. After being received to altogether positive acclaim with their debut track, “Mr. Fist” - a combination of blue-eyed funk and British wittiness – the band now present the wonderful, “Ads”.
Besides the unavoidable comparisons drawn to an apparent Bowie-esque pop weirdness, with added hard-edged funky bass and stand out, almost-synthesised-sounding guitar, “Ads” is an utterly perfectly crafted track. Frontman Theo Spark delivers quirky and non-comformist lyrics with the idiosyncrasy of many-a-Franz Ferdinand tunes: dead-pan, yet impossible not to be charmed by. Movie have created a sort of game-changer with “Ads”, a perfectly fine-tuned track that raises the bar for a new kind of guitar pop. We can only look forward to what they have to offer next.
“Ads” is released on June 9 via Skelly Records.
