19 year-old MNEK has released his first single “Every Little Word”, an outstandingly sexy cut that looks set to confirm the hype he’s been deservedly attracting.
Forgoing the irrelevance of an intro, the track strikes the kind of throbbing bassline that chews up your speakers and leaves the floor shaking: for all of his soulful 90s’ vocals – and yes, he totally has those down – this is undoubtedly a club track. Meanwhile distorted funk synths and everything from handclaps to cowbell beats fight for prominence on the kind of kitchen sink production that from anyone else would have been overwhelming. But then, that’s the brilliance of it.
As a taster of his upcoming debut album “Every Little Word” bodes extremely well. The South London-born Uzoechi Osisioma Emenike says he to “make a statement…to change the world one song at a time.” From any other nineteen year old it would sound ambitious, not to mention presumptuous. But from one producing work like this? Well, it might just be on the cards.
