Listen: Mister Goodnite – Don't Trust Me
LA is quickly becoming a hotbed for slow-jams and pop dreamscapes of the RnB and lounge variety – we’re looking at you, Banks – now Mister Goodnite is blending hybrid soul samples with original vocals to captivating effect.
Vocally camped with Ariel Pink, or a more melodic Tame Impala, Mini Mansions vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Tyler Parkford weaves soulful rhythm with apologetic self-deprecation on ‘Don’t Trust Me,’ the lead single off his upcoming solo debut Songs About Love and Lack Thereof.
The album – or mixtape rather, it will be released on cassette as well after all – pulls samples from what Parkford’s label Morning Ritual describes as ‘the listeners’ subconscious’, to match Mister Goodnite’s original lyrics. To add to that, Songs About Love And Lack Thereof promises to be a full-fledged concept piece, complete with collages and film clips to flesh out the multimedia project.
Accepting ‘Don’t Trust Me’ as exemplar, taken with this flash teaser video, we’re intrigued to say the least.
