Miss Tati demands respect and unveils stylish visuals for empowering new single "Woman"
Bergen-based musician Miss Tati has just dropped the video for her brand new track "Women", and it's cool as all heck.
The singer was born in Portugal to Angolan parents but soon moved to Norway, and started out singing backup for Norwegian acts Datarock and Kakkmaddafakka. She's released a few singles so far, but "Woman" is Tati's best work yet.
Miss Tati's sound is a sort of neo-soul take on hip hop; it's incredibly funky, smooth and - as the message behind this track shows - full of empowering attitude. On the verses,t o a backing of Italo house piano chords, the singer is full of sass as she effortlessly raps about how she expects to be treated before unleashing a soulful and heavenly singing voice in the chorus. "Woman" is confident, assured...and an absolutely killer track.
"This is song dedicated to all the women out there - who in the spirit of Aretha Franklin and Kelis - deserves respect. It’s also my girl power anthem, since I grew up with R&B stars like Destiny's Child, TLC, Missy Elliott, Aaliyah and Ms Lauryn Hill," explains Miss Tati.
"My sister is my best friend and together with our cousins [all the women featured in the video rocking incredible pantsuits are members of Tati's family], we grew up showing off oversized outfits (taken from mom’s wardrobe) at catwalks and performing covers at friend parties or family gatherings. From recording your favorite music videos from MTV on VHS and wearing out tapes to fast forward and rewind to rehearse choreographies. To putting t-shirts on our heads so we could resemble ladies in music videos with long hair, and last but not least - with hairbrush serving as a microphone so we could shameless lip sync through all the R&B runs and riffs. Yes, I am forever going to be an '80s baby living in the late '90s and early '00s"
