Millie Turner turns up the heat as she returns with the irresistible “Jungle”
Having set her stall out already with several pop bangers including previous singles “Night Running” and “January”, Hackney's Millie Turner continues at a dynamic pace with her latest track "Jungle".
Accompanied by a video replete with appropriate amounts of foliage and Helena Bonham-Carter-esque visuals, “Jungle” represents a surefire continued path to success for Millie Turner.
It'd be easy to discount Turner as another Londoner-does-straight-talking popster, following in the footsteps of artists such as Lily Allen and Kate Nash, but in reality, the 20-year-old has a sound that belies her years and based on this latest effort, should be considered as a contemporary rather than a comparison. "Jungle", in all its urgency, represents Turner forging her way forward to a place of independence and offering a tantalising taste of what’s to come.
"Jungle" is a frantic, pounding track, focussed around an irresistible hook and an equally captivating piano driven melody that works its way in to your head and just won’t budge. It's pop perfect for dancing and jumping and stomping around to, captivating with its distinctive urgency.
Speaking about “Jungle”, Millie explains, “It’s a metaphor for my life in the city, or where I feel in the world, or even within society itself. It's a place where I become entangled in the drama and wildness which can be both beautiful and scenic, like the incredible wildlife and scenes you find in a jungle. But despite the jungle's ethereal beauty, it’s colluded with dangers that you become entrapped and caught in, which I guess what life can do.
“This song is a reminder to myself of the animalistic craziness in power structures within society, and the challenges life lures us into, and how to embrace and empower myself within that system.”
In addition to supporting Swedish Queen of the Clouds Tove Lo on tour this summer, Millie will also be headlining BBC Introducing’s Live at The Lexington on 2 April.
