Millie Turner drops an ode to the fresh (or not) slate that comes with each new year on “January”
London-based singer/songwriter Millie Turner has released her second EP Hide+Seek with its fresh opening track “January”.
Singing about turning a new leaf come “January”, the bright new artist believes we have the right to fuck it up all over again if we want.
The track is from Millie Turner's second EP release and finds her blending baroque-style pop vocals with warming synth and tingling percussive beats. “January” has a particularly playful undertone, a memorable melody and characterful delivery, making this the EP’s standout.
“January represents an idea for me, a time where there’s this internal pressure to do more, be more, start again, relive your life, forget that you’re human” explains Turner, who wrote “January” as self-awareness notes to herself.
She continues, “In reality I’m a mess and make mistakes all the time and this song is a parody for the reality that 'January' brings. Take me to 'January', where I can make more mistakes and live like a normal human, growing and self improving in my own way. In the meantime I will spill the milk.”
Building a strong collection of lo-fi pop, Millie is well on the way to stepping out even further in the year to come.
