Copenhagen’s M.I.L.K returns with the heated pop-stomp of latest single “When You Feel Good"

If blissful, sun-soaked pop is your thing then, simply put, you are in for a treat.

The solo artist – otherwise known as Emil Wilk – creates music that harks back to 70s legends Curtis Mayfield and Shuggie Otis, with the modern edge of Jungle, Rhye and Leisure.

Having just debuted their new EP seven months after his previous single, “U and Me”, it is clear that the psychedelic infused disco groove of the latter has certainly seeped into the tracks comprising A Memory Of A Memory Of A Postcard. However, an altogether more mature tone overrides; “Following The Sun” pulses with an understated rhythm, bright synths and smatterings of brass, whilst elsewhere “Waiting” dials in the funk with its R&B grooves.

Sitting at the core of the EP, “When You Feel Good” emerges from the gloom via Wilk’s smooth and dulcet tones, though it is not long before the veil is lifted to reveal bubbling synths, lush harmonies and finger-clicks to get your own going. From here on in the track is a buoyant whirl of colour; that aforementioned brass makes an encore, providing the song with a touch of class that could - in the wrong hands - become an overwrought addition, whilst Wilk’s vocal soars carefree between breezy electronica as the propulsive bass compels your hips to move. The simplicity of the chorus could easily feel cheap, however it instead anchors itself as a festival ready anthem and a crowd-pleasing staple; what more could be asked of a man who proclaims a love of all things that “stink of summer”.

“When You Feel Good” and A Memory Of A Memory Of A Postcard EP are available now via Capitol Records.
