Mike Jenkins and Sango collab to drop dope new track “Spread Love”
Ahead of his debut album, The Healing Component, Mick Jenkins has dropped a new single “Spread Love.”
Produced by Sango, with additional keys from Dee Lilly, the Chi-town rapper has delivered a laid-back yet compassionate piece. The track has a chill beat that exhibits Mick’s rapping ability and still allows him to go in. His flow is as smooth as the easy-going instrumental behind his vocals, which deliver a simple message throughout the song: “If you’re hatin’ nigga, don’t / Spread love.”
Perspective is key to any rap album and Mick has just that. On the record and his A Quest for Love tour, he says: “Just trying to see how much love is out there in the world in a time where we need it the most. It's so easy to hate, have a negative opinion. I want to actively talk about love- what it is, what it means to people, what it looks like and in just mere conversation that energy might be transferred. But with the music, that is precisely what we aim to do.”
2016 has been a significant breakthrough year for Chicago-bred rappers as artists such as Chance the Rapper and Joey Purp have seen a lot of success this year. This fall, it will be Mick Jenkins’ turn as his album is set to drop on 23 September. After two mixtapes and an EP, this track has us looking forward to more music to come from Mick Jenkins. He’ll be in the UK this month for Reading and Leeds Festival but if you miss him, he’ll be back later this year during his Red Bull Sound Select Tour with fellow rapper, Smino.
