midnight delivers a patient deep dive into dark R&B on newest offering "Archon Reprise"
Laden with breathy vocals and dreamlike beats, "Archon Reprise" sees elusive artist midnight create a dark R&B underworld where it's always the dead of night.
There's something both deeply entrancing and intergalactic about midnight's new track which features collaborator ylxr on production duties - a match seemingly made in heaven. midnight's deep, sultry vocals encapsulate a mysterious energy that feels constantly just beyond your grasp. Every beat is purposefully placed and the melodies are deliberately understated, making the whole production feel effortlessly slick.
However, beyond the sleek production there's also an air of danger lingering within the mystery, as the New York-based artist plays his cards close to his chest, only revealing certain parts of himself to the listener, making him an altogether far more intriguing figure who we are yet to know fully. The track also comes in the lead up to midnight's EP entitled Nocturne, which is due for release later this year.
Speaking on the track's instinctive energy and the collaborative process that went into its creation, midnight says "Hip Hop was my first love. The beats, the cadence, the vibe... All music theory and training takes a backseat when I write music. Letting go of technique while trusting my instinct is crucial and nothing taps into my instinct as clearly as a beat playing in the pocket...
"As an artist you're always searching, sometimes you find it, more often than not it eludes you, and sometimes you're lucky enough to work with other artists of ylxr's caliber who help to shoulder that burden. Archon (Reprise) was found and created with that same sort of instinct."
