Rising rapper Maydien creates “Something Special” on his soulful lovers’ duet with Ayelle
After opening for the likes of Anderson .Paak, Frank Ocean and most recently Mick Jenkins, Dutch artist Maydien’s timeless approach to the arts is a masterful blend of neo-soul and early 00s R&B melodies.
Maydien joins forces with Swedish/Iranian singer Ayelle on “Something Special”, and their vocals melt together adoringly, cascading like rainfall over the bewitching guitars. The gentle groove is darkly lustful, dripping in honeyed lyrical inflections.
"I feel like this track is kinda like an old school duet,” Maydien explains. “It reminds me of that early 00s vibe. You don't come across these types of songs that often anymore."
Woozy electronics float over the track’s delicate surface, expertly “setting the mood”. It’s an intimate conversation between two partners, a passionate ode to lovers both past and present.
