MAX RAD searches for a reprieve on his bouncy new outing “Play Dead”
Taken from his forthcoming debut EP which is due to land next year, MAX RAD’s new single “Play Dead” further solidifies his unique sonic concoction.
Having already released his recent singles “String On Me” and “Flesh and Blood” in 2019, MAX RAD has no intention of slowing down or compromising his DIY musical vision. Writing, producing and mixing his work whilst holed up in his South London home studio, the artist has honed in on a unique blend that marries hip hop beats, bouncy synth work, playful melodies and killer hooks for a sound that conjures a frivolous tone.
Newest outing “Play Dead” is no different. Capturing a chilled out swagger in its bolshy beats, the track manages to maintain an introspective and thoughtful tone with MAX RAD’s understated vocal. “This track is like an inner dialogue, when you’re trying to cut loose of something that has you in its grip and you’re too far down the line to get out of it and the coping mechanisms built around that,” says Max of his new single.
“I wrote this song at the same time as 'Flesh & Blood' - I was down in Devon in the south west of the UK, staying in a little cottage by the coast working on new music. I took a few things down with me to record, and set up in the living room. 'Play Dead' came about very quickly - it seemed to unravel and slot in to place fairly seamlessly. So there has only ever been one version of this track. I wrote and produced it all at once; there's often a kind of magic in capturing a song in it's embryonic stages that you can't seem to recreate, so I finished it down there and it actually hasn't changed since”.
