Matt Maltese shares suitably emotional visuals for his stunning new single “Studio 6”
Matt Maltese may only be 20 years old but the music appearing from the South Londoner carries a weight and a prowess far beyond his age.
“Studio 6” is the second track we’ve been treated to, following the immaculate demo “Even If It’s A Lie”, which recently climbed into the Top 10 Global Viral chart on Spotify, and it’s another gently melancholy, wholly moving affair, married with suitably emotional new visuals featuring actress Lily Newmark.
It’s a cut that swells and pulsates with an underlying power thanks to his effortless, languid vocal and the intelligent, loungey production work of fellow newcomer Alex Burey, which gives space to the reverberating piano and warm layers of backing vocals.
Of the track Matlese says: “I'd been an admirer of loads of the music coming out of South London for a while - Jerkcurb, Babeheaven, Loyle Carner etc. - I started going to quite a few shows they were putting on in Peckham, and met Alex [Burey] at one of them. I'd heard some of his music on Soundcloud and thought it was beautiful - I felt like a proper fanboy when we met. I played him some demos, and we started hanging out and making music together. I wrote “Studio 6” in the space of an evening, and Alex and I pretty much recorded all of it the next day.”
With a residency at Brixton’s Effra Social over the next month and a clearly uncanny knack for beautifully arresting ballads, he’s an obvious talent quietly setting his stall out; get ready to see a whole lot more of Matt Maltese.
