Matt Maeson, Neon Gold's newest signing, shares debut single "Cringe"
Matt Maeson is the newest signing to Neon Gold, the label well-known for being home to names including Tove Lo and Marina and the Diamonds.
Maeson’s debut single, “Cringe”, is guitar-heavy pop, centred around a husky vocal. The sound takes heavy influence from a childhood straight out of a storybook - Maeson is the son of two reformed outlaws who played in Christian heavy metal bands. Barred from listening to rock music via the radio as he and his parents travelled America to minister in prisons, Maeson spent his time playing songs about redemption to prisoners and bikers alike.
For all his parents may not have approved, roots of rock weave through Maeson’s classic-sounding debut single, fortifying its anthemic pop chorus. It’s only a taste of what’s to come, however - his forthcoming EP is due in early 2017. Stark, urgent, and from the heart, “Cringe” offers plenty to tide us over ’til then.
