The name Marian Hill evokes images of a matronly middle-aged history teacher, rather than an oily slick RnB duo operating out of Philly. Thankfully there’s certainly nothing quite so stuffy as their moniker suggests going down on debut cut, ‘Whisky’.
Formed only last month by producer Jeremy Lloyd and vocalist Samantha Gongol, Marian Hill’s first outing indicates a shared love of minimalist hip-hop with muted handclaps and deftly flicked hi-hats lapping gently over Sam’s sweet and airy drawls of, “I get so tipsy with you on my mind”. Kick back and sip this vintage blend of soulful yet poppy RnB, nice and slow.
