Marcus Norberg and the Disappointments drop the charmingly bitter country jam "Hey Ho! Let's Die!"
Stepping out from his work as bandleader of dream-poppers YAST, Marcus Norberg has rounded up some Disappointments for his latest musical venture.
"Hey Ho! Let's Die!" is the second track to be taken from Marcus Norberg and the Disappointments' debut album Heal The World, due out later this month. Although a solo project of sorts, the Swede has made this record alongside some fellow Malmo dwellers: Markus Johansson (YAST, Toi Let, DÖDEN), Niklas Wennerstrand (YAST, Toi Let), Erik Mellerstedt (Nightmen), Matilda Berggren (Mixtapes & Cellmates) and Emil Isaksson (Studio Möllan).
As if the title of this new song wasn't evidence enough, Norberg's solo venture is a downbeat, melancholic affair. Yet the looseness in "Hey Ho! Let's Die!" provides a lightness that's not always present in Norberg's lyrics; there's freewheeling guitar that recalls classic '60s and '70s songwriters, and expansive bass and drums which allow the track to roll out over the five minute mark. "I woke up the other morning / I had a funny feeling growing / pictured you with some shitty ass-face / my dreams can sometimes get me twisted" goes the tongue-bitterly-in-cheek opening couplet, just one example of Norberg's self-depricating way with words.
With Matilda Berggren providing some vocal light against the dark as the track progresses, the whole combination results in a brilliant country-tinged jam.
