Many Voices Speak take dream pop back to the '80s on the lilting "Away For All Time"
With her debut EP set to drop at the end of the week, Sweden's Many Voices Speak gives us one last taste of what to expect with the swooning title track "Away For All Time".
Having coming to many people's attention when providing vocals for fellow Swedes Grapell, Matilda Mård has really come into her own under the name Many Voices Speak, as the single "Video Child" and her cover of "Blue Moon" prove.
"Away For All Time" starts with synth patterns and echoing drums which recall Foreigner's "I Want To Know What Love Is", but any '80s pomp is dampened by Mård's gorgeously downbeat vocal (which sounds a lot like Natalie Prass in places) and lyrics to match. As she croons "I fell like a stone...I've got to hand it to you", the electronic backing rises and falls like a dream pop symphony. Gloomy and gleaming, this is sumptuous stuff.
