Sophia Manou, simply known as Manou, is an Anglo-German 17-year-old and one of last year’s most promising pop acts. Performing around London since she was 16, she attracted the attention of a number of publications, including yours truly. With the fluttering pop explosion of her track, “Sadie”, along with its watery-coloured video, she’s steadily built up the momentum to releasing her debut single, “Loving You”.
The track was produced by P*nut, who not only has worked with Amy Winehouse and others, but also helped produce Manou’s already mentioned, “Sadie”. “Loving You” is an ethereal piece of electro-pop, with a sort of hip-hop pace to it, which can be heard in the track’s beat and Manou’s delivery. Although primarily developed on synth slabs and beats, the song revolves around one-note guitar strums and a playful bassline. And the chorus? It’s simply to die for; an anthemic pop creation in which a romantic struggles takes the shape of a catchy sing-along.
It’s fair to say that we’ll continue keeping an eye on this one. “Loving You” is released today via Duly Noted Records.
