Norway's Magnus Bechmann balances discomfort and playfulness on new single "Uneasy"
Norwegian singer/songwriter Magnus Bechmann contrasts his bright and playful melodies with negative thoughts on latest outing "Uneasy".
Since the release of his 2017 debut EP Loners Get Lonely Too, Bechmann has only released a couple of singles, and returned last month with his biggest release yet, "What Do You Know". Today he's back with "Uneasy", a vibrant track that tackles the discomfort of being in unnecessary situations.
The punchy beat and bright guitar melody create a leisurely tone for the track, and Bechmann's breezy vocals are moulded around the instruments, echoing gently in a near-euphoric manner. The lyrics tell a different tale though, as he sings about feeling restricted and frustrated about unnecessary arguments that escalate into being told to leave, "I get up, I’m being told to leave / Why, I don’t know, and it’s making me uneasy / Did my best, all though it comes to show / That I was wrong, and it’s making me uneasy."
Bechmann's vocals are engulfed after the first chorus by swirling synths that counteract the negative frustrations. While they do drown out the bickering, it's not enough to disarm Bechmann's concerns over the pointless arguments.
He says of his new outing, ""Uneasy" captures a situation that most people are familiar with, but also really uncomfortable with. Situations that occur in everyday life that shouldn’t be a big deal but can grow out of proportion and turn into one."
The new single is lifted from his forthcoming album, which will be released digitally in two chapters throughout the year - the first part is due to land on 29 May - a vinyl release will follow on 30 October.
