Magnus Bechmann's sharp and smart "Second Chance" is a guide on life and how to live it
Sandvika's Magnus Bechmann is a young man with an ear for a catchy hook and an insistent melody if new single "Second Chance" is anything to go by.
Recalling the sound of another Norwegian, Sondre Lerche, 20-year-old Bechmann has already impressed with debut single "Keep On Playing Nice". It's safe to say that the singer is probably something of an Anglophile, as there's a definite influence from the likes of Two Door Cinema Club and Metronomy in his bright and infectious music.
"Second Chance" has jagged guitar lines softened by bouncing and colourful synths, while the snapping percussion and Bechmann's inviting and urgent vocal fills the track with a verve its (apparent) motivational mantra deserves.
Of the song, the Norwegian tells us it's "about buying in to the self-help distributed through dishonest TV-shops, who promise a better life for just a few bucks. Generally if it sounds too good to be true, then it usually isn't true. 'Second Chance' is produced by Erlend Mokkelbost, who I admire for his work as part of Montée & JR Ewing. I'm really looking forward to performing the debut of the EP at Trondheim Calling in February."
