M.I.L.K. officially the starts the endless summer with the fragile breeziness of "Following The Sun"
Copenhagen's M.I.L.K. is releasing his first official single, a dreamy pop gem in the shape of "Following The Sun".
While he fills up his days making videos for the likes of Blondage and Reptile Youth, this Danish act caught our attention with the finger-clickingly excellent "If We Want To". Now, M.I.L.K. follows up that track with his first "proper" single release, "Following The Sun".
The sound of the summer in four-and-a-half minutes, it starts with the pressing of the calypso setting on a keyboard and then M.I.L.K. lays over bright synths, a lazy jangle of guitar and glorious parps of brass. With a gentle croon that's both wistful and persuasively pleasing, M.I.L.K. sings "float away with me baby / I'm hungry for a change / float away with me baby / I know you feel the same". In the hands of someone else, this could sound trite and clumsy but it's delievered with the right amount of emotion, neither sung with a knowing wink or desperately overwrought. Almost resigned in a way we've all experienced when something feels like it might be about to slip away.
Of the track, the Dane says "you know that feeling when you don’t want something to end? I guess the song is about that. When you feel it’s to early to let go of a summer love even though the season is changing and the sun is moving on. So instead of accepting the end, you go with the birds and follow the sun to new shores where the summer has not faded yet.”
"Following The Sun" will be released on London-based singles club OEOE, who have already released tracks from fellow Nordic acts Broen, Great News and SLØTFACE. Listen below.
