North London may not necessarily be synonymous with soul, but new singer-songwriter Lyves may just be the woman to change that. Emerging this side of the pond via Italy & Australia, Lyves (real name Francesca Bergami) seems to have an affinity for some of soul’s biggest names, citing Bill Withers and Erykah Badu as direct influences.
Although she’s got the vocal abilities to pay homage to some of her heroes, new track “Visions” is more in-line with new age electro-pop. Blending slow but expansive synth lines over a bass riff that echoes the throwback sounds of ‘chill-wave’, “Visions” is a relaxed affair that still manages to retain an emotional nature that hints at something more meaningful.
