Lydia Ainsworth is the latest signing to Arbutus Records. “White Shadows” is her debut track for the Canadian label, and it’s an eerie and captivating listen.
There’s a Lynchian atmosphere with the desolate forest imagery that goes with the track and the garbled vocals at the beginning that recall the Black Lodge scene in Twin Peaks. Vocal manipulation is nothing new to Ainsworth who has implemented it in her earlier work. Xylophone flourishes and sweeping strings complete the otherworldly introduction to her orchestral and cinematic music.
Her debut EP, Right From Real Pt I, is released on 10 June via Arbutus Records.
