New duo Lunch rework Foreigner classic
Ulysses Alvarez and Heloise Tunstall-Behrens were in a really weird mood when they decided to cut their own version of Foreigner's "I Want To Know What Love Is"
"It kind of just sprung upon us,", says Tunstall-Behrens, "[and] for a moment put aside the Frank O'Hara poems that we had been working on... we were a bit delirious and had a wonky attempt to tune all the synths and keyboards whilst transposing the guitar tabs that we'd found on the internet. It proved near impossible but hilarious."
The duo's seasick-take on the song is as alluring as it is bizarre, combining some incredible visuals for their first video. "The video is inspired by people who know how to take care of themselves," Tunstall-Behrens adds. "We felt like we wanted to juxtapose the message of the song which professed that to feel good, someone has to show you how good you are. We both felt that, it's actually far more important that you can show yourself how good you are.
"The video shows two people getting ready for a dinner alone. It's about self love. And humour. And beauty. And Queerness. That's the kind of things we'd like to inspire."
The video, directed by Katy Young and Anika Mottershaw, is perhaps the most trippy thing you'll see in a week that really needs more trippy things in it. "Heloise and Ulysses approached Katy and I about making a video for them earlier this year," explains Mottershaw. "Katy and I are old friends and had never worked together in this capacity before. It was a very collaborative effort with Heloise and Ulysses and we essentially spent an afternoon being silly and gross in a studio together in front of the green screen.
"My favourite part of the day was when Katy tried to iron the green screen first thing in the morning and burned an iron shaped hole into it. A great start to a great day."
