Listen: Lulu James – Step By Step
Newcastle’s R&B diva Lulu James returns with another sultry, house-inspired track to confirm just how healthy the genre is in this country.
‘Step By Step’, given its first play as a ‘Special Delivery’ from the wonderful Annie Mac tonight, picks up from where its attention-grabbing predecessor ‘Closer‘ left off. There are unmistakable garage notes, with the return of that heart-beating bass and ticking snare.
Heavy on the bouncing synth and with James’ instantly recognisable, snarling tone that got us all hot under the collar with ‘Be Safe‘ at the back end of last year, it’s a track that cements her intent as a voice for the dance floor.
