Louis Baker double drops "Gave It All Way"
New Zealand based singer-songwriter Louis Baker shares the acoustic and electronic mix of his latest single "Gave It All Away", side-by-side.
Hailing from Wellington, North Island, Baker's third and latest single comes in its straight-up singer-songwriter acoustic form, but is also reimagined as an electronic dance track.
Discussing the origins of the track Baker explains, "Often songs can take me months to write and fine tune, but with 'Gave It All Away', I finished writing the words in around 15 minutes." The track was written one night while on tour alone, in the UK. "I felt this necessity to express myself in that brief window of time. It flowed out of my mind like a rolling river. The best way I can describe the song, is it's like a fork in the road – you can either pursue your dreams, or you can let them go. 'Gave It All Away' is about blazing your own trail, carving out your own way, no matter what adversities lie in front of you."
The original version - the acoustic version - has since been reworked by Mu, the founder of New Zealand collective Fat Freddy's Drop, much to Baker's delight. In his words: "to work with Mu on this project was so dope. I've always been a huge fan of Fat Freddy's, and in particular Mu's production.” It's this version that really shows the power in Baker's songwriting, hearing the two versions side-by-side the sentiment of the more stripped version is not lost, but explemified with Mu's expert production the track remains soulful and honest.
