LosFeliz welcomes you into her solitary world on new track "Orion"
Lucy Powell, better known as LosFeliz, is a brighton-based artist specialising in a unique brand of melancholy folk that’s unforgettable in its intensity.
New track “Orion” is a perfect example of this, with sparse instrumentals leaving acres of space centre stage for her vocals to shine through, creating an intensity that’s rarely pulled off with such finesse.
LosFeliz recorded the song (and the rest of her upcoming debut) in a church in Wales that her ancestors built with their own hands. She explained, “I went to the chapel my ancestors built in complete solace. I find that so many of us dread being alone for an uncertain amount of time and find it challenging to create anything whilst there are distractions everywhere, so I literally forced myself down that path.”
The influence of this solitude and the history that surrounded her as she wrote has a marked effect on “Orion”, with the opening appeal “Orion in the sky / Won’t you watch us tonight” having an almost prayer-like feel to it.
LosFeliz’s music may be minimalist, but it’s also dripping in emotion, creating an intimacy with the listener that’s hard to break off, even after the final notes of “Orion” have ended and you’re wrenched back into the real world.
