Lontalius keeps things simple on his minimalistic new single "Someone Will Be There For You"
The light at the end of period darkness, Lontalius shares a message of hope with his first single of the year.
New Zealand-based singer/songwriter and producer Lontalius, aka Eddie Johnston, released his third album All I Have last year and has been sharing a steady stream of new music ever since. This year he's already put out a collaborative EP with singular balance, a heartfelt cover of REM's "Sweetness Follows" and the soothing and sentimental "I'll Be The Rain" as part of electronic artist EDEN's New World Tapes project.
"Someone Will Be There For You" marks the start of his latest chapter of music, with more to follow soon. The track is true to its titular message offering a simple and clear resolution to your problems. With Johnston's affected vocals almost breaking as he delivers the lyrics' emotional punchline, the crescendo towards the end of the track doubles-up the sucker punch to the heart.
"I'd started writing new songs at the tail end of 2019, and it was bugging me that I kept writing things that felt so insular and diary entry-like," Johnston explains. "[This] certainly isn't a step too far away from that," he adds, "but it was me forcing myself to write something for everyone else. I've spent so many weeks of my life feeling like there is nothing and no one out there, feeling like the weight of the world was on my own shoulders," he continues. "But it's true, someone will be there for you!"
