London singer/guitarist ROCH sends shivers on debut track "Closer" [Premiere]
London singer/songwriter ROCH has revealed her debut track "Closer", and you can hear it now on Best Fit.
Speaking about the cut, ROCH says: "'Closer' came out of a dilemma where I felt unable to act on something of real importance for somebody I really care for…" She also notes that the track was influenced lyrically and tonally by The Diving Bell and The Butterfly.
Fusing echo-laden guitars - think Daughter, SOAK, or early Torres - with a silken vocal line, the Central St. Martin's sculpture student rises from the depths of her soul to bring honesty and tangible emotion to the surface. It's laid bare in every sense - ROCH uses sparse instrumentation and leaves her voice high in the mix with wide-open lyrics; it's a remarkably bold debut.
The 20-year-old artist is currently working with a spray of impressive names, including Ben Christophers (Bat For Lashes), Richard Frenneaux (Laura Welsh), and Leo Abrahams (Wild Beasts), with a view to release more noises sooner rather than later.
