This Sunday Not So Popular are hosting an all-day show to raise funds for three alleged members of Russian punk band Pussy Riot.
The event at the Shacklewell Arms will feature performances from The Slits’ Viv Albertine, Female Band, Zoetrope, and others, along with speeches and stalls.
Maria Alekhina, Nadezdha Tolokonnikova, and Ekaterina Samucevich are awaiting trial following a protest against Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin. The three allegedly participated in a “punk prayer” in a Moscow church, footage of which you can see below.
All three were denied bail, despite the fact that Tolokonnikova has a four year old child. They each face up to 7 years in jail if convicted.
Sunday’s event will be followed by an international day of action on Monday, which will include a march on the Russian Embassy in London.
Sunday’s show opens at 2pm. Entry is by £5 donation. More details here.
