Listen: Years & Years – Traps
London based band, Years & Years have finally released the follow up to their debut single ‘I Wish You Were Here’, which surfaced over a year ago now. But was it worth the wait? Absolutely.
‘Traps’ whispers the good kind of sweet nothings in your ear, not the kind that’ll have you taking out a restraining order. Softly warbling, ‘I trapped an owl, I shot a hare, for you’ over a steadily building drum beat, frontman, and sometime actor, Olly Alexander’s voice comes over satin smooth, suggesting that maybe chivalry actually isn’t dead. Or maybe he’s just a bit weird and fucking hates wildlife. Either way, we’re feeling him, although PETA probably aren’t.
‘Traps’ is hopelessly catchy, and if this mysterious five-piece keep the ball rolling, this could be the start of something truly beautiful.
‘Traps’ is out 9 September via Kitsuné.
