Listen: Wildarms – Love Is Just True
We’ve been enthusiastically lapping up the work of The FADER journalist turned beat magician, Duncan Cooper since he first began operating under the Wildarms moniker late last year; following ‘Unity’ and ‘Acceptance’ comes another wedge of magnificently dreamy sample centric pop in the form of ‘Love Is Just True’. The track is the third teaser to be pulled from his debut EP, Clear Eyes, out next week on the simply faultless NYC x LDN label Cascine.
On ‘Love Is Just True’ Cooper succeeds in creating a seamless bond between the simple, wholesome message he’s trying to convey and the glossy synth riffs, heartbeat drum kicks and gently sunkissed vocal loops that blow in pleasantly melodic wafts throughout.
Partly inspired by Friday Night Lights, a high school football drama based largely around a talented teenager who suffers a career ending injury, Wildarms’ debut EP mirrors the blind optimism and heartache of the show; but thanks to Cooper’s deft R&B touches and slick hip hop breaks, Clear Eyes never becomes too bogged down in syrupy sentiment.
Wildarms’ Clear Eyes EP is out Feb 5 on Cascine.
