With exactly one year passing since the release of debut single ‘Make Me, Break Me’ (which featured in our Best Fit Fifty songs of 2011), Stockholm based Ester Ideskog – aka Vanbot – continues her ascent with this first taster from her as-yet untitled second album. Premiering on Nylon last week, ‘Got To Get Out’ sees the sprightly pop upstart in typical arms aloft mode – yet, whilst the gloss and shine of the music sets adrenaline racing, lyrically ‘Got To Get Out’ sees Ideskog in a more introspective mode.
She says of the release: “(it’s) about my hometown Stockholm and how it’s filled with people experiencing a sense of isolation and separation, how it makes you feel lonely in a crowd,” she explains. “It’s fascinating that people can live so close together without really noticing one another. It’s about exploring the city nightlife and the tendencies people have to chase after the experiences that will cause the best story to tell the next day instead of enjoying the happiness of the moment.”
