Having just signed to Universal, Stockholm’s latest pop star in the making Tove Lo returns with a big sound and a big budget video for new track “Out Of Mind.”
Wrapped up in the aftermath of a relationship, “Out Of Mind” takes a more dramatic approach to heartbreak than previous number “Habits”. Where “Habits” found itself in drink-to-forget territory “Out Of Mind” allows the pain of an ending love affair to breath: The emptiness felt reflected so perfectly in the minimal production and scattered beats, the fragility captured in the delicate verses and the undercurrent of anger that boils over embodied in Tove Lo’s defiant vocal cries.
Tove Lo has all the hallmarks of her Scandinavian contemporaries but there is a gritty, humble twist to her carefully crafted pop offerings that are all the more addictive for their realism (which is wonderfully at odds with these particularly surreal visuals).
Tove Lo plays a free show at Stockholm’s Debaser Strand on November 14. Grab a complimentary ticket here.
