Helmed by sometime Smith Westerns keyboardist, Ziyad Asrar, Touching Voids is a project founded on rather less carefree ideals than those of his youthfully exuberant day job.
As with debut track, ‘Like Dust’, new one ‘Untied’ teeters on the precipice of over-mawkishness without ever really threatening to disappear fully into its a haze of lullaby sweet guitar curlicues and skeletally arranged percussion. At once desperately hopeful and utterly fatalistic, Touching Voids is the perfect accompaniment to peering through rain lashed windows in the dead of night, wishing for someone or somewhere else.
