Listen to the new seven-track EP from Bristol bedroom-pop upstart Slonk
Bedroom-pop artist Slonk is streaming his new seven-track EP Losing My Mind On The Outside Of Everything ahead of its release.
The not-so-short short-player includes "I'm Pursuing A Career Outside Of Conveyancing" and "Carousel", plus five other lush nuggets of his DIY pop imbued with raw punk nerves and slathered with lush, warm melodies.
Slonk's Joe Sherrin tells us that the release is "largely about how I feel like I've wasted a lot of my life behind a desk" and that "a lot of it has been written as letters to a potential future self, one where I've presumed I'll grow old in an job I loathe and just accept that it's all I'll be. I'm releasing it this Friday, which is the day my notice period runs out and I get to leave my current job."
"After this I'll probably be taking a little Slonk break and focusing more on [punk/post-hardcore project] Milo's Planes whilst they're all back for the holidays," Sherrin continues. "I've had the follow up to [recent album] Songs About Tanks recorded and ready to go since early summer, so I should probably release that at some point... although I'm now so bored of it I already hate it and am halfway through writing another album."
The EP was written, performed, produced, recorded, and "mastered" (his quotes, not ours) by Sherrin in his bedroom. Samuel Bedford has created the excellent artwork, which will be released as a poster/download bundle.
Next month Slonk heads out on a joint solo tour with Kate Stapley, who is planning a new EP for February on Breakfast Records. The dates will be kicking off on Friday in their home city of Bristol.
