Listen: The Range – Promises [Best Fit Premiere]
Providence, Rhode Island’s prolific young producer, The Range, had us scrambling around the internet in search of more details behind the playfully complicated rework of Ciara’s 2008 single, ‘Promise’ we heard on Donky Pitch’s January SubFM Radio show.
Well the music gods heard our cries, as today we are excited to premiere that very track, and offer a free download along with it. James Hinton, aka The Range is a master at melding R&B vocals into a pitched-down breathy tickle on the back of your neck, while slowing down the bpms to make room for static bouts of tambourine shakes, and drowsy, thudding keyboard notes that create the melody for ‘Promises’.
Taking the track several steps further, Hinton adds rumbling footwork rhythms, tightly wound, chimey clinks and more pitched-down vocals to round out his emotional incubator of a single. But don’t be fooled, having already released an EP of original edits for always ahead-of-the-curve label, Astro Nautico, The Range is a more than fitting name.
Be sure to grab a free download of ‘Promisies’ below and mark your calendars for an 22 April EP release from The Range. All we can say is you’re in store for a fluttering exploration of bass music and it’s future forms through three new tracks and remixes from Howse (Tri Angle), Supreme Cuts (Dove) and Obey City (LuckyMe) courtesy of Brighton label, Donky Pitch.
