Listen: The Cyclist – Mangel
Ireland’s best kept secret, 20-year old producer, Andrew Morrison aka The Cyclist has revealed the second single, ‘Mangel’, off this debut Stones Throw/Leaving Records LP, Bones In Motion.
‘Mangel’ is a buzzing synth number that keeps time through thuds of humming bass and jazzy percussion builds. Mangled fragments of distorted cries reach with outstretched wispy limbs, grasping towards piano notes, but fall short just before the break, which opens the track up, allowing for a groove-worthy melody to wash over.
The beauty of Morrison’s latest work is his ability to create this warming sensation that continues to build beneath soul-flecked basslines and delicate, melting vocals, all covered in a analogue guise, which blends seamlessly to forge a new type of sound he’s calling ‘Tape Throb.” Two singles do not do The Cyclist justice, you need this record in your life.
