Sve hails from Brooklyn, but her pop sensibilities are more akin to Tove Lo than Lana. As an unsigned artist, she’s making impactful splashes, but it’s her knack for massive pop hooks, brilliant choruses and glittery production that has us hooked.
Her latest offering, “Riot”, is a clanging mid-tempo track that starts delicately, as filtered organs and sparkly synths phase around deceptively, before an appropriate bridge crashes into the chorus. And boy, what a chorus it is. Somehow Sve manages to elongate the syllables of the word “riot” with precision, creating a sing-a-long moment that’s sure to niggle into your conscious and stick there.
As with a lot of good pop music, there’s an element of melancholy that lingers underneath the surface, the song’s yearning melody juxtaposed with high energy lyrics. Likewise, the song’s production is solid, as subtle elements are blended seamlessly into the track adding layers of texture.
With “Riot” Své has created something special. This is pop music at its best.
