Standish/Carlyon is the new project from Conrad Standish and Tom Carlyon, founding members of Aussie rock trio Devastations. ‘Nono/Yono’ is the first offering from their full length debut, Deleted Scenes, due out on 14 May via felte.
Content with allowing the steady beat to bubble away at its own pace, the two impossibly seductive Lotharios employ louche falsetto vocals and muscular swells of shimmering synthesizer to impressive effect. This is no mere pastiche of Gayngs’ skewed slow-burning alt though; ‘Nono/Yono’ conveys enough sensitivity to mark Standish/Carlyon out as authentic and exciting purveyors of atmospheric R ‘n’ B laced pop in 2013.
