North West based producer Tarek Musa is probably best known for being the man behind the desk on records from 2012 breakout acts Jethro Fox and Châteaux. The talented multi-instrumentalist began writing under the Spring King alias last year, courting blog attention with the waspish, Black Lips indebted ‘Let’s Ride’.
Tarek returns with a fleshed out five-piece Spring King and an arsenal of some fifty new songs including this sunkissed open highway romp entitled ‘Avocado City’. Reverb soaked guitars hum in unison with sultry bongos and other off-kilter percussive thwacks, ushering in the same relaxed, hazy atmosphere that Wavves positively thrive under.
‘Avocado City’ sounds as though it might come undone at the seams if not for Tarek’s faintly maudlin growl entwining around each summer infused note; but knowing his mercurial ability, that sense of looseness is utterly calculated. Either way Spring King’s latest offering delivers a much needed shot of concentrated bliss.
