Listen: Some Minor Noise – Understanding
Toronto two-piece Some Minor Noise formed in 2011 after producer Wayne Doe and vocalist Jane Void struck up a natural rapport whilst the former was helping out the latter with her solo studio material.
Incessantly jerky electronics and click-clacking hand percussion have since become a staple of their nocturnal beat-driven sound, having released their debut EP last year, the pair return with a similarly mellow aesthetic on new cut, ‘Understanding’.
Drawn from their forthcoming first album, ‘Understanding’ forefronts Jane’s swooning, pitched delivery against dappled synth pads and softly brushed hi-hats, ultimately achieving a similarly dark, glossy sound to fellow Canadians Purity Ring. Deep, textured electro-pop with an unswervingly soulful centre.
