Listen: Seinabo Sey – “Younger”
At just 23-years-old Stockholm’s Seinabo Sey has been around in previous guises but “Younger” is her debut solo effort, and what an effort it is.
Lingering organ notes give way to powerhouse vocals as an initially straight-up soul pop ballad unfolds, but soon producer Magnus Lidehäll shows his hand. Responsible for Mapei’s killer number “Don’t Wait”, he messes with Sey’s vocals – feeding them through distorted cyclic loops while Sey ushers in an utterly infectious mixture of beats and synth hooks. The production is crisp, clean and perfectly understated. Instrumental adornments build so wonderfully cautiously until the song finds itself in the throws of euphoric, glitching trance infused sonics but the focus of the song always remains that incredible voice.
