Find me a new artist this year with a name as fancy as ‘Reginald Omas Mamode IV’ and I’ll eat my hat. The newcomer from Peckham is set to release his debut EP Do You through Five Easy Pieces on November 18 and with it comes the title track – premiering today at Best Fit.
A cacophony of vintage instruments and old style recording techniques, “Do You” is bedroom soul filtered through incessant funk grooves a la Beck’s massively underrated Midnite Vultures album from 1999. More of a freestyle jam than a structured song, “Do You” is instantly rewarding and benefits greatly from Reginald’s one-take vocals.
