London trio – not duo as we were led to believe – Polterghost have dropped the slashed ø typography since the last time we heard from them, when debut track ‘Holy Smoke‘ dropped back in May.
Zane Lowe’s fervent approval followed on the back of that fabulously scuzzy three and a bit minute wonder, pricking up the interest of Luv Luv Luv‘s evil sibling imprint, Hate Hate Hate, home to fellow angry young men, LOOM among others.
‘Beast’ is part of their first release on the label, a AA-side also featuring ‘Ordinary’, and while Jock’s yawning vocals still carry a faint air of Brett Anderson, our initial comparisons to Suede are rendered redundant by wave upon wave of thumping snares and cymbals and squirming guitar riffs. This one owes more to Guided By Voices than anyone else, and we in turn should pay gratitude to Polterghost for another mouthwatering garage-rock feast.
