Listen: Parks, Squares and Alleys – Forests
An avant-garde sonic explorer, a practitioner of muso-psychogeography, however you want to dress him up, Russian teenager Parks, Squares and Alleys writes music to whisk you beyond the realms of mere ‘sound’.
Debut ‘Youth‘ and its simple, moving visuals tapped into our desire for playful adventure, while Sergei Khavro’s second release, ’Forest’, takes his situationist stylings one step further, heading out into the wilds, where ‘things that scare’ dwell, and his downbeat vocals drift by on wistful, fingerpicked guitars, tinny 808s and springy synth swirls. Nothing seems to frighten Sergei though, he even breaks into a blithe whistle at points. Tough cookie that he is.
