Listen: Pale Blue - "The Past We Leave Behind"
After decades in the underground electronic scene, New York producer Mike Simonetti has left his record label (and started a new one, Two Mikes Records, or 2MR) and found his muse in Elizabeth Wight. Together they form Pale Blue, and they're sharing debut single "The Past We Leave Behind".
As the title might suggest, "The Past We Leave Behind" is a brilliant mix of triumph and melancholy. Over a steady house beat, synths shimmer and strings swell, imploring the listener to leave their own past behind and set out on a new journey. Underneath the celebration of abandoning the bad and the sadness of forsaking the good, the track seems to ask a deeper question: can we ever really leave the past behind? Given Simonetti's history, the answer would appear to be a brilliant, beautiful "yes".
