2011′s Leisure Seizure finally answered the burning question, “What the fuck happened to Tom Vek?” as we revelled in clutching the Londoner’s infatuating, experimental dance-pop to our bosom once again. Fearing another six year wait for new material, you can only imagine our delight as Thomas Vernon-Kell sprang back into action last week as one half of a new transatlantic partnership with Brooklyn’s Olga Bell, called Nothankyou.
To be released as part of a two-track 7″ via Moshi Moshi on 5 August, ‘Know Yourself’ is vintage Vek. An awkwardly rattling beat plinks along to gummy bass oscillations and archetypal riffing funnelled directly from his killer debut, We Have Sound, clustered bursts of indie disco-fuelled guitar skipping over Bell’s runny proclamations.
Bliss for the achingly hip who had ‘Ain’t Saying My Goodbye’s’ looping on their MySpace profile circa 2006. What’s MySpace? Ah forget it.
