Listen: Monument Valley - "Tattooed Fists"
It’s been just over a year since Monument Valley released the stunning “When I Go Clear”, a sparkling and intimate paen to late night London. Today MV returns with the first track lifted off the debut album Walking On Skin.
As can be expected from Monument Valley (real name Ned Younger), “Tattooed Fists” is a thoughtful slice of wonderfully executed song craft. Younger’s instantly recognisable voice floats over a bed of aching chords that pull the heart strings in all the write places. There’s elements of Death Cab For Cutie’s Ben Gibbard here, with a single line being able to send shivers down the spine of the listener in one fell swoop.
Though Monument Valley very much continues to be a solo project, Walking on Skin features production from Communion’s Ian Grimble and also Jamie Ellis (of Transgressive-signed outfit Battle).
Walking On Skin is released on June 9. Listen to “Tattooed Fists” below.
